K-12
School from kindergarten to grade 12, the final year of secondary school.
Last reviewedWhat does K-12 mean?
K-12 means the years of schooling from kindergarten (K) through grade 12, the end of secondary school. The term comes from North America, but consultants use it everywhere to mean the school sector, as distinct from early childhood, higher education and vocational training. Private K-12 schools earn mainly from tuition fees, so revenue = enrolled students x average fee. Example: a school with 1,500 students paying 8,000 a year earns 12 million in tuition.
Example
Fees and new schools are often regulated; in Dubai, for example, the regulator KHDA links the fee rises a private school may make to its inspection rating.
