Recruiting in Africa
Lesson 1 of 2 Last reviewed 28 September 2026 10 min

The hubs, the firms, and how they hire

Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, Cairo, and Casablanca: the firms, local firms, hiring routes, and language.

Firm processes and online tests change from year to year and differ by office. Use this to prepare, and confirm the exact current steps on the firm's own careers page.

Key takeaways

  • BCG: Cairo, Casablanca, Johannesburg, Lagos, and Nairobi.
  • McKinsey: Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, Casablanca, Addis Ababa, and Luanda (reported; McKinsey's own pages did not load when we checked).
  • Bain: Johannesburg, its only office in Africa.
  • Dalberg, a development-focused advisory firm, lists offices in Nairobi, Lagos, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa, Dar es Salaam, Abidjan, Dakar, Kigali, and Rabat.
  • Genesis Analytics, headquartered in Johannesburg, describes itself as an impact firm founded in Africa.

This lesson was checked against the sources listed at the end, official pages first. Firm processes change between offices, roles, and years, so use it as a guide and confirm the details in your invitation and with your recruiter.

Independence

So What Club is independent. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any firm named in this library. Firm names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to describe publicly available information about how these firms hire. We never reproduce any firm's test or share confidential interview material.

Most consulting jobs in Africa sit in a few hubs: Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, Cairo, and Casablanca, with smaller offices elsewhere. Consultants in a hub often work on projects in several neighboring countries. For example, Roland Berger says its Casablanca office, opened in 2008, serves clients across North and West Africa, and Bain says its Johannesburg office serves clients across the continent.

Global firms with offices in the main hubs (checked on official pages unless marked reported)

  • Oliver Wyman: Johannesburg. Roland Berger: Casablanca, its only office in Africa.
  • EY-Parthenon: Johannesburg, Nairobi, and Lagos (reported in 2021).
  • Deloitte, KPMG, and PwC have member firms in these countries, for example KPMG South Africa and KPMG East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda). Accenture lists Johannesburg and Rabat.
  • Kearney, Arthur D. Little, and Strategy& are also reported to work in the region, but we could not load their office pages. Check them yourself.

African and Africa-focused firms (from their own websites)

  • Dalberg, a development-focused advisory firm, lists offices in Nairobi, Lagos, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa, Dar es Salaam, Abidjan, Dakar, Kigali, and Rabat.
  • Genesis Analytics, headquartered in Johannesburg, describes itself as an impact firm founded in Africa.
  • Phillips Consulting in Nigeria, with offices in Lagos and Abuja.
  • Valyans in Morocco, with offices in Casablanca and Rabat; its website is mainly in French.
  • We have not reviewed the interview process at these firms. Read each firm's careers page.

How hiring happens

  • Local graduates: BCG Nairobi runs a Business Analyst program for students in their final year and for recent graduates. McKinsey Johannesburg was reported to run a five-week Business Analyst internship in June and July for third-year and final-year students.
  • Africans studying abroad: firms also recruit for their African offices at business schools abroad. For example, BCG ran a UK campus tour in November 2024 for its Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, Casablanca, and Cairo offices.
  • Experienced hires: BCG Morocco says applications from experienced professionals are open all year.
  • Timing at BCG (its international opportunities page, checked 2026-09-28): Nairobi runs undergraduate programs in March or October and hires recent graduates year-round; Lagos hires year-round with start dates typically in the first and third quarters; Johannesburg hires year-round.
  • Because offices are smaller than in Europe or the US, many hire in small numbers and not always every year. Check each office's current openings.

Formats and language

  • We found no Africa-specific interview format on official pages. Expect each firm's usual process, such as online tests, case interviews, and fit interviews; see the firm modules.
  • Morocco: French matters. A Roland Berger Casablanca Junior Consultant posting requires English and French, with Arabic a plus, and a KPMG Casablanca posting asks for French and English.
  • Egypt: a Deloitte Cairo Strategy and Transactions consultant posting asks for English and prefers candidates who are bilingual in Arabic and English.
  • South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya: interviews are usually in English.

Entry titles seen in African postings

  • BCG Nairobi: Business Analyst (graduate program), and Associate and Consultant for experienced hires. BCG Morocco: Visiting Associate (for candidates with up to 18 months of experience). BCG Cairo: Junior Associate or Associate.
  • McKinsey Johannesburg: Business Analyst Intern (reported). Roland Berger Casablanca: Junior Consultant.
